(221) Below is diagram of excavation: Rock, Wt. = 3/4 lb Elevation Road Path Level Path Road Cross Sec. 11:30 The youngsters are getting pretty lazy. Just now when Brownie came from the nest to feed them, they lay on the ground with their bills not more than six inches from the food dish while she fed one after another. Not one of them attempted to help himself. Just before coming out of the bushes one of them uttered two well developed thrasher "Scrips", the first I have heard from them. In feeding, their conversation consists of a low twitter, usually three notes at a time. It is so low that some visitors are not aware of it at first even when not more than six feet away. at present Brownie's shifts at the nest appear to be of short duration as compared with her mate's and also at longer intervals.
