Dafila acuta. Dec. 3, 1908. I obtained a drake of this species with a broken wing. It was in full winter dress. March 18, 1909. The pair of birds of this species which I have now appear to be in very high plumage. The female is an uninjured bird and spends a good deal of her time on the roof of the old chicken house. Neither birds make a sound so far as I can observe. July 4, 1909. The female Sprig has lost some of her tail feathers and also other body feathers which do not show so well. The drake lost his spike-like tail feathers a long time ago; otherwise he shows no change. July 18, 1909. The other day I noted two or three dark feathers in under parts of the drake Sprig. The female is getting a good many fresh feathers. August 1, 1909. A few light feathers on the lower cheeks of the drake and a loss of white feathers on the neck at the base of the brown is the only change.
