Transcription
Two terns which I shot were of this species. Adult & immature
Larus philadelphia. Fairly common. Adult and
immature about half and half.
Larus californicus. Several large immature
Gulls doubtfully referred to this species.
Arenaria interpres. One flock of about a dozen
on the south shore of the island. Wild. Shot
one in fine high plumage.
Squatarola helvetica. Two for certain. One white-
bellied, the other black.
Triglaeus semipalmatus. Common. High-plumage
Triglaetus nivosa. Six on sandy beaches on
south side.
Heteractitis nicaruns. One among some
rocks on west shore. Wild. Characteristic
call.
Numenius hudsonicus. Fairly common in marsh.
Cinnetes pusillus. Very abundant. Shot
ten or a dozen. No Least Sandpipers recognized.
Calidris arenaria. Two or three small flocks.
Nycticorax nycticorax. Several in marsh.
Ardea herodias. Several.
Macrorhamphus griseus. Several good-sized
flocks.
Melospiza cinerea. A few. Feeding on
beach at low tide.
Euphagus cyanocephalus. Several feeding
on beaches at low tide.
Pelidna alpina. Several in high plumage. Singly.
Cormorants. Four or five Phalacrocorax auritus. Flying.
