February 3, 1911. Alameda to San Francisco, california. Rainy. Along the seawall and mole I saw a few ducks and one or two grebes. On February 1 I saw a small hawk on top of a flag staff on a building at the corner of Sansome and Sacramento Streets, San Francisco. On the bay near Alameda mole I saw a flock of a dozen or more cormorants south bound, flying close to the water in the usual undulating manner. Two or three ducks were also seen awing. The usual gulls were seen in the usual numbers and following the ferry steamers - Larus glaucous, Larus californicus and Larus argentatus. February 4, 1911. Alameda to San Francisco, Cal. Balm; Cloudy. There were quite a few ducks along the seawall and mole and several gulls flying south of the mole. On the bay about twenty cormorants flew by us in single file, passing over Goat Island going in a northwesterly direction. I saw a flock of a couple of dozen ducks flying south. Several very distinct ducks and cormorants were seen. Immature Larus glaucous followed the steamer commonly; they far outnumbered adults. A few adult Larus californicus and an occasional immature one were
