Loons. Two or three on bay.
December 18, 1910.
Alameda to Leona, Oakland, California, via High Street.
Conditions: Moderate temperature; north wind; clear.
The only certainly identified birds were a
number of Sturnella magna in the fields along
the roads, and one Lanius ludovicianus
which I saw light in a tree. A number
of Passer domesticus were seen near
dwellings; also a large hawk or vulture
high up in the air. Saw several unidentified
small birds.
December 19, 1911.
I saw a large number of gulls on the mud pumped up
near Lake Merritt, Oakland, California.
