Grebe. One off south shore of island. Small species.
Gulls. Several large ones.
Larus philadelphia. Seven on tops of piling of old
railroad bridge in San Leandro Bay. All were worm,
some very worn. One had a black head. The
others showed signs of immaturity.
Arenaria interpres. One near high shell bank off South
Alameda.
Squatarola helvetica. Fairly common. One very
black-bellied one.
Numenius hudsonicus. Common.
Limosa fedoa. A few.
Macrochamphus griseus. Common.
Sympthenia semipalmata. Common. Several
which I took to appear to be immature plumage
Sandpipers. Saw several small flocks. While on the
southeast shore of Bay Farm Island a very large
flock of several hundred suddenly passed
over me, disappearing in the distance to the
south, flying over the bay,
Ardea herodias. A few. All wary.
This evening I saw several Nycticorax nycticorax
flying over town.
