23 In the evening I saw a few scattering ducks along the seawall and mole although it was low tide. Drake Scamp Ducks were in evidence. A great many gulls were seen on the sand left exposed by the tide along the mole. I saw a cormorant in the shallow water. When crossing the bay I saw half a dozen Oedemia dyglandi flight on the water. February 19, 1909. Alameda to San Francisco, California. Along the seawall and mole I saw a good many scattering ducks on the water. I saw half a dozen flying north and half a dozen flying south. Among those on the water male scamp ducks were recognized. I saw also half a dozen Oedemia perpicillata, 1 Colymbus septentrionalis, 1 Echmorphorus occidentalis, and 1 cormorant. Saw 2 small finches flying west over the water. February 20, 1909. Alameda to San Francisco, California. Off the seawall this morning was a large flock of ducks on the water, and a number of stragglers here and along the mole, Scamp ducks being in evidence. I saw one Echmophorus occidentalis. This evening there were a great many gulls on the flats exposed along the mole. One Ardea herodias seen.
