Nov. 2, 1908.
This morning while crossing the bay in the
fog a flock of a dozen ducks got up off the
water and flew a short distance. They looked
to be river ducks - perhaps Dafila acuta - and
were apparently lost. A Pelecanus californicus was seen.
Nov. 3, 1908.
(While on San Leandro Bay at about 4:30
this afternoon I saw a good many land (flicker)
birds flying south over the bay. They were
about sixty feet in the air. There was no wind
clear.
Nov. 6, 1908.
This morning, while crossing the bay, I saw two
or three flocks of ducks (about a dozen each flying
south.
This evening when returning home I saw one
or two Larus hermanni and several immature
Larus californicus on the bay. Just at dark when
going up the mole I saw two or three Gerdea herodias
in the shallow water in characteristic pose.
Nov. 10, 1908.
This morning quite a few Larus californicus
both adult and immature followed the steamer
over. Two or three small flocks of ducks
seen flying.
