July 16, 1908.
Larus occidentalis and Larus Leermanni are the gulls
noted on the bay now.
July 20, 1908.
Adult Larus occidentalis are the gulls most seen
on the Alameda Ferry route now. They do not
follow the steamers, nor are they abundant. Occa-
sional Larus heermanni are seen. Along the south
shore of Alameda and along the mire, occasional
Nycticorax nycticorax and Ardea herodias are
seen.
July 25, 1908.
Both this morning and evening I noted several large
shore birds, apparently Cygnus, on the sand exposed near
the roundhouse. There was also a goodly number
of gulls, apparently mostly immature Larus californ-
icus. One or two Ardea herodias were also present.
On the bay Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni
occur, although not abundant. Occasional imma-
ture individuals of Larus californicus were seen
this morning.
At house this morning a large shore bird
flew over the house bound for the outer bay. It
called as it passed over. I could not distinguish
the species, although it was not high up.
July 28, 1908.
This morning I noted one or two Uria troile off Goat
Island. They flew as the steamer approached.
