58. For the marshland on San Leandro Bay the following species were observed. Tide flooding. Sterna forsteri. Quite a few. Calling. Saw one with a fish in its mouth being pursued. One which was taken had pieces of a crab in its thr Numenius hudsonicus. Two or three. Limosa fedoa. About 100. Great variation in bills. Also taken not in high plumage. Small sexual organs. Macrorhamphus griseus. Three in winter plumage. Tringa canutus. One passed close. Saw a flock of about a dozen. Pelidna alpina. Three with black underparts. Three or four Nycticorax nycticorax. Several flying. Ardea herodias. Several. 3753 Zenaidura carolinensis; ♀; W. San Leandro, Cali.; May 27, 1908; t.A.S. No. 3754 Macrorhamphus griseus; ♀ Alameda, Cal.; ; " " t.A.S. No 3755 " " ♀ " " " " " t.A.S. No 3756 Limosa fedoa; ♀ " " " " t.A.S. No May 31, 1908. Alameda, Cal. Drownt out in a boat along the north shore of Bay Farm Island meet of the Bridge. Low tide. I saw one sandpiper on the mud; three Limosa fedoa flying, several Sterna forsteri flying and calling and occasionally parroting one another with loud cries, and three or four Larus phil- delphia on the sand. June 3, 1908. Alameda, Cal. Conditions:- South of Alameda; forenoon; light wind; low tide; warm.
