birds were eight or ten beautiful adults of the latter species, all passing close enough to be positively iden- tified. In the evening a few Larus californicus were seen on the San Francisco side, more adults being noted than in the morning. Last night several gulls were seen circling high up near San Francisco. This morning I saw a small hawk, probably Falco sparverius flying over the Italian vegetable gardens near West Alameda. Monday evening, the 23rd, at 6 o'clock I saw one at High Street. September 26, 1907. Alameda to San Francisco, Cal. Conditions: - Moderate temperature; clear; no wind; shower- morning. Near the roundhouse and on the beach and water to the southward towards the Borax works, there were a great many gulls this morning, while on the bay scarcely a one was seen. While going along the mole one or two were seen flying westward Near Goat Island I saw a cormorant going south, close to water.
