August 20, 1907.
Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal.
Conditions: Yesterday; clear; warm; WNW wind. To-day, clear,
moderate temperature, WNW wind.
Both this morning and yesterday morning there
were a good many of Numenius hudsonicus on the
marsh west of 1st Street.
On the bay, immature gulls in dark plumages
and adults are common both on the wing
or the water. This evening there were a hundred
or so scattered about on the water SE of Goat
Island. Larus occidentalis, Larus californicus,
Larus delawarensis?, and Larus heermanni
were observed.
Last evening near High Street I noted two
or three Nycticorax nycticorax flying about high
up in the air just at dusk. They were not
calling, although quite often they may be heard
doing so.
