flying north over the bay. They were very high
in the air, but nevertheless their calls could be
heard. A flock of about eight ducks were seen
passing northward lower down, passing
over the low part of Goat Island.

Alameda to and from San Francisco, Cal.
conditions: - Strong SW wind; very overcast and
hence quite dark; moderate temperature; threat
ening. Evening trip.
A few Numenius hudsonicus and sand-
pipers were in the light near the round-
house both in the morning and evening.
On the bay gulls were not very com-
mon, a few Larus californicus being seen
off the water front and Goat Island;
off the close to the island was quite
a flock of Larus philadelphia.
Two flocks of ducks of about ten each
passed ahead of us flying northward.
Eight were noted on the water along the
shore, quite close together.
