37. there were quite a few shore birds on the sand, and in the distance a few gulls. The tide was quite high and not much mud was exposed. A few curlew-(?) were seen alighting on the marsh off a distance from the train. This evening both Larus glaucescens and Larus californicus followed the steamer across in great numbers, circling about over the stern as usual. On the Oakland side of Oakland creek, east of Lake Merritt, I noted three Scap ducks on the water this evening. There were perhaps fifty or seventy-five ducks along the mole this morning, most of them quite a ways out. Apr. 20, 1907. Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal. Conditions:- WWind; warm; clear. In the morning a few ducks were seen along the mole. In the evening two flocks of ducks were seen going NW when off Goat Island. They were quite high in air and strung out, some straggling behind and at
