Alameda to and from San Francisco, cal.
Conditions:- Overcast in morning, clear in afternoon,
westerly wind; moderate temperature.
The tide was very low this morning, and
in the light near the roundhouse there a good
many gulls at the water's edge. Quite a few
ducks, also, were observed feeding their backs
only showing out of water. Last evening at
low tide I noted two Larus philadelphia
flying over some pools left by the tides.
This morning while stopping at Morton
St. I noted four Nycticorax nycticorax alight
in some trees at the corner of San Jose Ave.

A good many large gulls in the shallow water and
on the exposed sand spit in the light at the mole round-
house. Three or four Larus philadelphia were noted,
fluttering watchfully over some pools left by the re-
