Spilopelia tigrina. (Tigrine Turtle Dove.)
June 16, 1908.
Bought six from Robison Bros.; numbers 74 to 79. Cost $15.00.
June 18, 1908.
Exchanged nos. 74 and 77 for nos. 80 and 81. No. 74 was lame
and no. 77 seemed to have a case of scirrhus.
June 24, 1908.
I found No. 75 dead on the roof of the wood shed
yesterday morning. These birds keep together most of
the time and are somewhat wary.
July 12, 1908.
These birds have gotten into better plumage during my
absence in the east, but still show no signs of nesting.
July 16, 1908.
The folks have reported hearing this species coo.
This evening I heard it. The call was low and rather
clear, and the notes are given quite rapidly. I have
noted a couple purring each other about the aviary;
probably they are two males.
July 18, 1908.
I observed a pair copulating this evening. They
did quite a bit of cooing about dusk.
