Along the mole I saw about a score of grebes
on the water. A few birds perhaps ducks were
flying low over the water. Near the end of the
mole, a loon dived as the train passed. There was
a Fulica americana on the water near the track.
On the bay I saw about fifty ducks going north;
most were apparently scoters. All flew quite low
over the water and did not go over Goat Island
as I saw a flock do yesterday, but went around the
eastern end. I saw 2 birds pass to the south. One
other pair going south faced about and followed
a northward bound flock.
Larus californicus & Larus delawarensis
which followed the steamer across were both
common. There were a good many gulls on
the water.
