87.
Alameda to San Francisco, cal.
Conditions :- 7:00 to 8:00 A.M. overcast; warm; one shower;
wind north.
In a lot opposite the house I saw an Aphelocoma
Californica. Passer domesticus was abundant.
Along the mole there were about two hundred gulls,
about forty large shore birds, about as many sandpi-
pers, and in the shallow water six Ardea herodias.
One of these last remained standing within forty feet
of the train.
On the bay I saw a good many Larus californicus. Few of
these birds are in the very young plumage. The same is
time of Larus delawarensis, which Dales saw a few. Larus
hermanni was not abundant: about a dozen adults were
seen. I saw one Stercorarius which was flying south.
I noted two small passeris at home, one appeared
to be an Astragalinus, the other I did not get a good look
at.
