On the bay I saw a few Larus heermanni, a few Larus delawarensis, and a good many Larus californicus. On a
pile at the mole I saw one Larus occidentalis, an adult
bird.
San Francisco to Alameda mole, Cal.
Conditions:- 5:15 to 5:35 P.M. Partly clear; cool; west wind.
I saw a few Larus delawarensis, a few Larus heer-
manni, and a good many Larus californicus. Near
the mole about a dozen terns came by from the beach
north of Oakland creek.
My father reports seeing a flock of about 40 terns in
San Leandro Bay this afternoon.
I saw a good many large shore birds on the marsh
near the roundhouse.

Alameda to San Francisco, Cal.
Conditions:- 7:00 to 8:00 A.M. cool; overcast; good west wind
Passer domesticus was in evidence as I went to the train.
Along the marsh there were a few large shore birds. As we
were going around the curve at the roundhouse, an Ardea
herodias tried to cross ahead of the engine; but as it
was going too fast, the bird turned back and gracefully
alighted on a post in the water. I noted a bird on the
water, probably an oolon.
On the piles at the mole I saw a few Larus californ-
icensis and two Larus occidentalis. On the trip across
Larus californicus was abundant and Larus delaware-
nensis common. A good many birds of both species fol-
