I saw one Passer domesticus as I went to the steamer. Up in the hills I saw none; they seem to hang around the towns. rather than hunt the solitudes. Off Sausalito I saw a good many Larus occidentalis and Larus heermanni, also one Phalacrocorax penicillatus. Off Alcatraz I saw another Phalacrocorax penicillatus. There were no Uria troile to be seen. San Francisco, cal. to Alameda mole, cal. 5:15 P.M. to 5:35 P.M. Conditions:- clear; warm; light west wind; tide high. I saw one Larus heermanni on the trip over this even- ing, being in a position very unfavorable for observation. Alameda, cal. 7:30 P.M. Conditions:- clear; cool; light west wind. I saw four Hirundo erythrogaster huddled together on a telephone wire. The two birds in the middle appeared to be young birds from their much smaller size. JUL 21 1904 Alameda, cal. to San Francisco, cal. 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Conditions:- Overcast; light west wind; temperature moderate. I saw an Aphelocoma californica in the yard before I left for the train. Passer domesticus was also present. I saw a few Euphagus cyanocephalus in their old rendezvous in the vege- table gardens. On the bay I saw a few Larus occidentalis and a few Larus heermanni. Off the San Francisco waterfront a Phalacrocorax flew swiftly by, headed to the northward. I saw no Uria troile on the whole trip across.
