JUN 29 1904
Alameda, bal. (at home)
Time:- 6:15 A.M. to 7:00 A.M.
conditions:- Overcast; temperature 55° F.
When I got up this morning, the first thing I
heard was the business-like note of Aphelocoma cal-
ifornica. Looking out of the window, I saw the bird
fly from the fence down into a yard, evidently to get
something to eat. Three or four minutes later, I heard
a great din of jay voices. Upon looking out of the
window I saw a lot of the birds hopping around on
the ground, facing each other, and engaged in a
very lively conversation.
I saw one or two Passer domesticus in a
neighboring tree. Three or four Sturnus erythro-
gaster flew by high up in the air, their course
lying to the Southward.
Alameda, Cal. to San Francisco, bal.
Time:- 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M.
Conditions:- Very slightly overcast; sun shining occasionally.
As I went down the street this morning, there
were a great many Passer domesticus in the trees along
the way. As the train passed along the seawall just
west of Fifth St. Station I saw a few Larus occidentalis
on the sand. Nycticorax nycticorax was also seen; one
took fright and flew, the others, however, remained.
Two or three Ardea herodias were seen standing in
the shallow water.
