Dafila acuta. Duck (Sally). Obtained Feb. 6, 1909.
January 14, 1912.
Seems to be in perfect feather.
February 11, 1912.
Looks about the same as a month ago, but is evidently
moulting breast feathers anyhow; as I see her picking at feathers
and some also look as though they were coming out. I ex-
amined the upper surface of one wing carefully and all
the feathers look of practically the same age. There are lots of
small feathers in the pond, probably from all the birds.
Sally's tail lacks several rectrices on the right side.
March 10, 1912.
Is probably through moulting. Breast looks perfect again
and the flank feathers and scapulars and interscapulars look
fresh and unworm. The tail still looks dilapidated; I do not
understand this unless she has some injury at the base of it.
The wings; particularly the coverts look somewhat abraded
but all of the same age. I should say that in all the
birds, the preumptual moult does not affect the wings.
