Zenaidura carolinensis. (Mourning Dove.)
No. 20 and 72 now have one young one, hatched this
morning.
July 14, 1908
No. 20 died to-day after having been ill a week or more.
I noticed that its excrement for the last twenty-four hours
has been green. For the last day or so it has stayed
for the most part out the ground. The other male,
No. 21, has not been seen to molest it while in this
condition.
Both of the young are now hatched, and the
female, No. 72, is taking fine care of them. It re-
mains to be seen if she can raise them without
her mate.
I do not know whether the eggs of Nos. 73 and 21
have hatched yet or not. The parents sit very close.
The male seems to do very little sitting.
July 16, 1908.
At least one egg belonging to 21 and 73 is hatched as I
found the shell on the ground this evening.
Last night I found one of the young of No. 72 lying
on the roof of the wood shed dead. It must have
been attached to the mother's feathers and been dropped
here.
