Aug.5. Songo: Virgin's Wren, Hutton Vireo, Spotted Towhee (one)
Saw W. Flycatchers - a group - 1 Lutescent Warbler.
Rt. Thrush heard. Returned to Boulder Creek p.m.
Aug.7. Beautiful warm days. Birds very quiet.
The Spotted Towhee still carries food away from
the table. The male Brown Towhee is alone
most of the time. A large group of juncos
down the trail (near old foundation).
Chickadees abt. Std. Jay feeding teasing, grown-up
young. Noisy. Under the brier at Joy Camp
I found one W. Flycatcher, heard one W.W. Wren -
Hutton Vireo heard frequently. One Celestials
Warbler in garden Aug.7 p.m.* Family of quail
abt. most of the time. I count 2 males, 3 females
and 11 yq. Saw two Kingfishers, one of which I feel
sure as a yq. bird - Very noisy. At dinner
time the double covey of quail came to to the feeding
table and one ab. to the pool.* After dinner we walked
down the lot and I found Pit-Warbler spaced -
four in all. Are they migrating during the day
and stopping to feed and roost during the night?
Aug.9. Returned to Berkeley via Dumbarton Bridge:
Tide receding: West end: Willets, Lt. Curlew, Godwits
East end: White Pelicans 200+, Rtr. Plover 1 (partly
black), Snowy Plover 1, Willets abt., W.T. Salt Sandp. 100+
Godwits a few, Avocets 50±, N. Phalaropes (graypl.) 300+,
Calif. Gulls 100+, Cliff Swallows, now at bridge,
abt. over Salt pools (yq. out), Barn Sw. 1 (on slated)
Br. Blackbirds ab.
Aug.18. Lutescent Warblers (one in pool. Stiller) ay and yq.
at table; yq. full grown, teasing to be fed.
Fog at night, sunny form.
