pair of Br. Turkeys feeding. Suddenly the females darted at
a third bird, male joins her and together they drove
it from the thujue into the crab apple tree and one out of
eight. (july 27 - not seen since.) 5 pottles Turkeys still
very tame, e.g. the female who takes food beyond the garage.
At sunset a Rb. Thrush was near the river; asp two Black-
Phoebes on the rocks in the river (one called like a-
very loud Creeper (yq?/)) Very hot day.
july 28. Still very hot but partly overcast. Duvail go
through each day - several adults + 10-12 yq.
july 29. Cooler. Duvail in petunia bed - 5 ad. (2 males).
young of two sings. Birds scarce - Seen or
heard july 28, 29 near cottage; Duvail (fam), Kiekiebirds,
Cali Woodpecker, W. Flycatcher (yq. a few), Coast Jay-
nority jane., Cali Jay, Chickadee - large fl. all indepidant;
Pyg. Nuthatchers (heard once), Creepers, Water Lluzel (one, calling,
nority. Seen below cottage). Unpor Wren (one heard), Winter
Wren heard singing for a few minutes). Rb. Th.- OCC. Calls,
Seen near river. Robin - one flew over, high, calling.
N. Vires heard often - two went through garden trees.
Cil. W. scarce. One seen - One came into shrubs
at dusk. Purple Finch - only one heard. Mt Goldfinch -
one came for Bachelor Button seeds; Siskin one heard
Has been very scarce all summer. Sp. Turkeys - pair,
Brown Turkey pair + 3rd unwellness. In the
july 27. morning the male Br. Turkee came to battle twice
within half an hour. The second time his feathers
were all fluffed out and he acted very fidgety
before bathing and immediately after squatted
down in the gravel when his feathers were
all wet. He left several short stiff feathers
(mingcoverts) in the water.
