June 6. Commencement. Luncheon in Faculty Glade,
Grad. in Greek Theater. Heard W. Flycatcher,
Olive-sided Flye (Gk. Theater), Bush Tits, W. Vires, Robin
Rb. Thush, Grosbeak, Siskin, Spotted Towhee, Song Sfp.
Beautiful weather. Toluie W. sq. below bird pool (E).
June 7. Fog a.m. Titmouse Taming cat worms. Junco - apple.
Hairy Woodpecker heard. Sunny after 10 a.m.
Song Sparrow still feeding young - from table
Male Swail alone in garden (junc. brooding?)
June 8. Cold. Heavy fog. The "Allen Hummers" took
Their last walks to Codornices, then went to
Mrs. Knips on Santa Barbara Rd. for lunch.
After lunch we went through the list of
California birds in Hoffman and checked
off the ones we have seen since 1936.
The total was 158 species.
List in Codornices: Swail (several pairs),
male ougward marched up the top of branch
of the Allen Bay tree and stayed there.
W. Flycatcher abr., Allen Hummer (several y.),
Anna Hummer (4), Bush Tits, Calif Jay (1),
Wrentit (1 og), Rb. Thush abr., Hutton Vires,
Warbling Vires abr. (1 fem.), Lutescent Warbler
Paleated W., Grosbeak (Large y. in nest),
Linnet>, Purple Finch abr. yg. independent. (Blue
lame bird at the picnic ground), very light
tawny on sides of head. Robin-like note that
has been puzzling me was a yg. R. Finch
Brown, Spotted Towhee, Junco, Lb. Goldfinch,
Song Sparrow.
