May 28. Miss Barrious (boss) no in her car to Boulder Creek,
Nothing at Dumbarton Bridge excepts 100s of
Cliff Swallows which were abundant in
many other places.
May 29. Boulder Creek. Cool, partly cloudy, breezy -
Very busy watering the garden.
May 30. Spent morning waterigcette. Drox home p.m.
Birds in the mountains:
less ab. than in other years. No families
On our place: [illegible], [illegible] (Allw?), Harry Wolf
Black Phoebe (fam.?), Violet, green Swallow (Flying-
Calif. Jay, Chickadee, Ro. Thrush, Warbling Vireo (most
conspicuous singer), Cassin Vireo 1, [illegible] Vired 1,
Black-thy Gray Warbler 1, Pileated Warbler, Towager,
Grosbeak? Spotted Towhee, Brown Towhee.
A male Brown Towhee came for food any
day constantly. Could not detect a mate.
No Western Flycatcher within hearing!
Heard elsewhere: 1 (Kingfisher (near town), Wood
Peewee (in lawn), Violet Green Swallow in many places;
Yellow Warbler Feltor, Lazuli Bunting near tellos.
From highway: Br. Black Birds Redwings, Sp. Hawks,
Bulbous Birds, Linnets, Goldfinches, many
Swallows - Cliff and Barns, Turkey Buzzards
(chased by black birds) - 1 Burrowing Owl on
electric wire.
May 31. Berkeley. Low fog turning into rain about 6 p.m.
Saw the Harry Woodpecker at (Mosswood Lane.
(Perhaps nesting at end of Piedmont Ave.)
Two Luscent Warblers singing, one above bird pool, ours
across road - (second nesting?). Tolmie W. Singing.
Single Hutton Vireo heard.
