May 4. The "Allen Hammers" spent the morning near
Mrs. Thompson's house, 131 Bret Harte Road.
(Compare Sept. 1942) Partly cloudy. Lunch in the
Garden. 1 Redtail, 1 Sh. Sh. Hande, 2 pr. Dzail, 2 male Awa
H., 2 Allen N., 1 Rufous N (?), W. Flycatcher 1 pr.,
Calif. Jay 6t, Bush Tit (afud), Wren-tit 8t, Bewick Wren 2g
Thrasher 2 males sg. Russet T. Thrush 1 (one song), 1 W. Vireo,
Lutescent Warbler 3 ag., Pileated Warbler 2 pr.,
Grosbeak 3 B ag., Purple Finch 2, Linnet several,
Willow Goldfinch 2 flew over, E. Goldfinch 1 pr.,
Siskins, 2 pr. flew over, Br. Towhee ab., Sp. Towhee ab.,
Song Sg. ab. (one male took foot to nest)

On Oxford St. (L & St.) we saw a St. Blue Heron rising
in spirals: on the Campus Thread an (Olive-sided)
Flycatcher (first time), on Eucled and Keith I saw
a family of Bush-tits and on Prospect St. near Bancroft Way a family of Titmouses.
A Thrasher was singing just beyond the end of
Mosswood Rd., at 7:30 pm.
May 9. At dawn a Chat was singing. Also Grosbeak,
Rb. Thrush (softly), Vagoin Wren, Lutescent Warbler,
W. Flycatcher (It has been singing west of house-)
East wind on May 8. Warm May 9.
May 10. Tanagers calling outside my window.
A Harry Woodpecker yesterday and Today.
Lazuli Bunting singing across canyon since May 8.
Pair of Dzail between our west line—Mr. Parsons's
house. Grosbeaks very ab. here and on campus.
Yellow Warblers singing near house May 8 and extra
Pileated Warblers, perhaps migrating through. (Mrs.
Kelly reported a 1 Hermit W. Town in Duvall Canyon
May 8.)
