Pil.W., Tanager, Gorbreat, Yb.Goldfinch, Junco, Br.Tow, Sp.Tow-
Song Bp. Aqupher has been very active. J.T. Caught
one. Gopher snake near by - 4 ft long. Br.Tow. bldg.
just backs of rose trellis - sericea grass in bill and
pulls it out by roots - also taken what I pulled out awhile
ago. Five times during 10 min.
June 15 Still cloudy. Tuned Sp.Tow - 5 times in five minutes-
Mate had two of first brood in path this side of nest-
Females does all of the building. A Rb.Thrush ran across the path.
Saw female Sp.Tow. go to nest; Br.Tow followed, driven out,
fight.
" v always goes into and out of the one
opening she always uses. 4 p.m.- Looked at Sp.Tow.nest
3\1/2 feet from ground in white rockrose, not inside but
on edge, open above. Birds not even near it since
10 a.m.- Finished. Br.Tow. has not been carrying grass
Today. Probably finished nest last night.
June 16. Looked at Sp.Tow.nest - no egg. Br.Towher (male)
feeding full grown y.q. birds. Sp.Tow. not seen near
nest. Cloudy until late afternoon, Homed Owl-
June 17. J.T. & heard a Hermit Thrush singing in
at dawn.
trees near water. water six times. Br.Towher
brought a young bird to table. Clear after 9 p.m.-
Went down to river 4 p.m.- Yq. Anna N. catching
small insects over water, darting back and
forth in one small area for 3 min.
June 18. Robin singing at dawn. Driab come out from
noval in Toyon + rock vase near electric pole.
Br.Tow. (male) feeding 1st brood; 1 y.q. on table, feeds timer-
rely at times; Sp.Tow.- one egg in nest. 1 y.q. (2nd brood)
on table alone. Dripping for 2 a.m. Sun p.m.
June 19. Male Br.Tow.- male Sp.Tow. each has only one 1st
first brood in tow. Yq.Sp.Tow. feeds himself. [illegible]
