Transcription
june 9. Discovered a Bush Tit's nest in oak at our
entrance. Nest in branch overhanging street
about 15 ft from ground. Young calling, parents
feed often, paying no attention to me. The call
of grosbeaks when feeding young heard all day -
"a p whee-oo" above us, across Morewood Rd.
Chilly in late p.m. Tolmie Warbler singing.
june 10. Cloudy all day. At dawn Grosbeak, Thrush - alike the
same, as usual. Peculiar call of W.Fq.(3) at 7:45, of Sp.Tour
8:30 am. Tolmie W a constant singer.
june 11 Clear after early morning fog. Bush-tits still feeding
in nest at entrance.
june 12. Bush-tits fled. Margot Quin saw a Brown
Towhee with a baby Bush Tit in its beak. Brought
it to me to see. Tail 3/4 in. It was still
breathing when she picked it up after the Towhee
dropped it, but dead when she showed it to me.
june 13. Cloudy. Left at 10 a.m. for Boulder Creek
to stay until june 22 (when new gas station comes in)
Dumbarton Bridge. Avocets very excited. Young
(3) 1/2 grown, much down, wing feathers in sheathers.
Cormorants against island (dark) with salt foam -
Many swallows. Nothing else seen - Clouds all
the way. Saw a Green Heron, Water Ougel -
june 14. Still Cloudy and chilly. Both. Sp.Towhee
and Br.Towhee building nests. Sp.T. in rock
rose where Br.T. raised its first brood. In the
morning the Br.Towhees (jr.) were still carrying
food to nest part of places. P.m. carrying grass
toward north: Chickadee families. Heard
Dyad, King Fisher, Calif.Wapt. W.Fly catcher, Olive sided Fly,
Winter Wren Angel
Chickadee Creeper, Rb.Th., Warbling, Hutton, Cassin V.
