Feb. 27, 28, 29. Stormy - heavy rains. Warner -
Birds taking a great deal of food from table
Feb. 26 - Hamilton Canyon. Warm, sunshine. Saw
male hawk - later a female. A pair of
Redtail Hawks seemed to be interested in Eucalyptus
two trees to south - across the canyon. One soared
about in different directions, always coming
back to them. Other came in from distance,
flying very high until straight above the trees
then dropped directly down. N.W. wind.
Saw one Sh. Sh. Hawk. Heard Thrasher singing
far up the canyon.
Mar. 1. Still stormy. Clear late p.m. Went over
to Sunset Cemetery, east entrance to see
Robins go to roost. Many thousands. Large
Pines, Cypress and Eucalyptus. Alighted
first in pines north of road and on wires.
Later crossed to Eucalyptus on south
boundary to east. Brewer Blackbirds came
into trees at north after robins left. 1000s.
We left at 7:10 p.m. War time. Robins
still flying in.
Mar. 2-4. Rain. Flocks of Siskins in M. Pines.
Cold. " " Juncos " oaks -
Mar. 5. Clear, Warm. Purple Finch singing -
New leaves beginning to show on some oaks.
Blue 4-c. Sparrow on table. Also Calif. jay,
Wrentits sp., Fox sp., Sp. Towhees Br. Towhees,
Song Sparrows.
