1943 Oct. 12 (contin.) Fox Sparrow (2 heard), Nuttall Sp., group, singing; Piaget SD-Sparrow (very ab.), Gambel Sp. sq. a few in full pl., Golden-crowned Sp. very ab., Song Sp. ab. 26 sp. Heard only once on Meadow. Ruby-crowned Kitelet? And Warbler? J.T.A. saw 2 B., 2 S. Oct. 13. A Hermit Thrush sang at dawn. Still beautiful weather. Oct. 15. W.W. Wren in Berkeley. Went to Boulder Creek. Increase in B. Blackbirds, Thrushes, Sp. Hawks. Piaget SD. Sp. in East Oakland. No exposed mud west and Dunbarton Bridge Tide high. A few quells on bay, some in jewels. No white pelicans. San Jose Redd. Sandy. Ducks ab. (hunting super today) 2 Grebes 500-. Ans. Egrets 7. Many Least, a few W. Sandp. Very few N. Phalaropes. Willets 150 on gravel W. Over the airfield near Pinole City 150 W. Pel. Oct. 16. Cold night at cottage. Gorgeous sunny day, A.M. Birds more ab. Heard Sp. Hawk (meadow), Kingfisher, Black Phoebe, Flicker, Stellar Jay, Chickadees, Ruby-crowned Kitelet, Robins, Hermit Thrush (ab.), Hutton Vireo, 4 B. Goldfinch, Juncos ab., Fox Sp. ab., Sp. & Br. Tow., S. Sp. ab., Song Sp. in distance. F.M. Santa Cruz. Tide very high, fine surf. 1 W. Grebe, many Br. Pelicans, Scoter (dull pl.) Willets (10) (on beach W. end), flocks (2) Sandling flying, 1 Common, many quells, esp. Hermans. Oct. 17. Cloudy. Last night warm. Misty rain all morning. At dinner tried a sparrow came on to table; like a common Sparrow but throat paler, breast darker, bill grey but center stripe of head maroon, Must be an 'imm.' White-throat Master tail covert shows out white (aberrism?)
