1941 Aug. 19 (Cortin). Barn Swallows numerous. No Cliff Swallows seen, Two Clapper Rails seen. Aug. 20. Berkeley. Light rain. Cloudy all day. Aug. 24. Boulder Birds very silent. No Brown Thrushes seen. Bushtits in small flock, Flicker heard. 50t Aug. 26. Berkeley. A large flock of Bushtits went through the trees and bathed in the pool - Juncos 30t with them but were not seen bathing. A Black-headed Grosbeak called several times - probably found ripe berries east of house. A pair of titmice stopped yesterday at the flicker box, and scolded - perhaps a Screech Owl roosts there in the daytime. Clear, warm day. Aug. 30. Boulder Creek. A Rusty-backed Thrush was whistling near the cottage - Now heard The two Br. Thrushes have feathers since the end of July, of all lengths in this. Eats. Dumbarton Bridge: Faintails 50t, W. Pelicans 200t Aug. 31. A few, Cormorants (Fort) 100s - Willets, Bobolinks, Godwits (a few), Sandpipers (a few), N. Phal- anopes 100s, (No Grebes) Fowl Terus, 1 Caspian Mt. View Marsh: Fewer birds than I expected but high tide was only 4.2 so perhaps they had been feeding for sometime before we arrived. Saw Rb. Plush (very few in 3, plumage) - heard many more than we saw. H. Curlews, Ltr. Curlews, (Yellowlegs, Willets, Sandpipers (Least), Godwits (a few). Many were resting in the high grasses - hard to see.
