June 8. During the performance of "Twelfth Night" in
the Greek Theater a Brown Towhee which
perched frequently on the lower at the north
end of the stage twice flew out over the
audience. It flew so low that it looked as
if it were planning to alight on the wall
at the bottom of the stone seats but it
ggradually rose and cleared the upper wall.
Other birds seen or heard during the play:
(Chive-sided Flycatcher, Junco, Grosbeak,
Siskins and a flock of Bush-Tits, Purple
Finch.
June 8-9. The Russet-backed Thrush sang every
morning at dawn for half an hour - just
outside my windows - followed by Intersect
Warbler, Spotted Towhee and sometimes Pilesated
and Tolemic Warbler.
June 9-11 Boulder Creek. Very warm but a good
breeze. Towager heard frequently. Kingfisher
only twice and no Quail seen or heard.
Black-throated Gray Warblers singing constantly
and seen in the shrubbery east of the house.
One song: Zeegle, zeegle, zeegle, geeks - up the
scale - Another a very throaty, low pitched,
Hurried zeegle zeegle zeegle zeeet che
(Peterson) On the way home first Willall 8p. at Clark Knoll
June 12, Berkeley. Rob. Thrush at dawn.
June 13, 14. No Thrush song at dawn. Now heard
Through this day. June 14. We drove to Boulder
Creek after dinner. On June 13 I saw
a Verdin Flycatcher inside the garage at the north
end. Have often seen it on the rabbit wire at S.W. corner
