Sept. 24. (cont.) Santa Cruz - In weedy field - Warbler;
Lutecent
green above, yellow below; wing feathers dusky
bordered with light (buff or white). Lutecent.
A few Gambel Sparrows.
Sept. 25. Heard no White crowned Sparrows on way home.
Sept. 27. Heard a R. Nuttahatch in next garden (Parsons)
Also a Golden-crowned Sparrow on Panoramic Way.
Birds still very scarce. Days shorter. Cool.
Sept. 30. Heard a R.C. Knight outside my window early.
Lady Birds explored Campus from Oxford St. to
Greek Theater. Birds were found only on
lawns toward west and in woods at
the Theater - almost nothing between.
Not a single bird found in Southern
gardens north of Library. West end:
flocks of Nuttall and Figeleuus - majority
Nuttalls - both singing. Br. Torhee, Ro
a few linnets? Cali. Jays? Townsend Warbler,
1 Bush-tit, Blackbirds. Near Theater:
Juncos, Robins, Flickers. Cali. Jays.
Red. b. Nuttahatch. At the colorwater at S.W.
end of Theater Hall I heard the call of a
young sparrow (sp.?) Cold fog until 11 a.m.
(Oct. 1. Heard W.W. Wren - chitter ----
At noon a large flock of bush-tits came to
bath and with them a Townsend Warbler.
Beautiful weather.
Oct. 2. Went to Boulder Creek via Palo Alto.
At Dimbarion Bridge: Pied-billed Grebe 1,
Lared Gulls 100+, White Pelicans 400+,
