On the mud Tomales Bay - Willets - very few. W. Gulls
Aug.16. Boulder Creek. Dreil (several) broods com-
tried - young almost full grown and half grown.
Calif. Woodpeckers less conspicuous than Aug. 9
[illegible] flying back and forth; no flycatchers; Chickadee,
brush tits, Pygmy Nuthatchers (first time this summer near
Cottage); Mt. Thrush heard once; Hutton Vireo;
Spotted Towhee - young feeding themselves and calling
like adults, showing a tiny bit of yellowish brown
on sides. Brown Towhees - a pair carrying
food to nest. Junco feeding q.q. out quest -
A chipmunk appeared near cottage.
Aug.17. Many pops at night and past of this day
Aug 21 Berkeley,
Heard the whistle of a thrush. A strange
call east of house, repeated over and over.
From the road I could see a 8 h. Sh. Hawk
Circling; a second bird came into view for
a moment. I think the calls were the calls
of a young bird and the pair were circling.
I heard the "Check" of a grosbeak near the
W.F.C. at 9:15 p.m.
Aug.22. Whistle of a thrush again. A Song Sparrow
sang several times. A Lutescent Warbler sang
softly. From the attic at 10:45 a.m. I heard the
Hawk calling again - "pree-ee-nt". I
went beyond the end of Woodwood but could not
get within view if it because of poison oak.
