1942 Inverness
By bus from Palos Verdes to Los Angeles: Sandpipers,
Sanderling B.b. Clover and others could not identify. Sparrow Hawks.
May 16. Berkeley. Foggy morning. Clear air afternoon.
A Thrush (Rob.) was singing near Woman's Fae Club
at dinner time. Toluca W. Soup east of house.
May 17. Fog in morning. Clear afternoon. A family of
Large Titmice, one of Brush-tits and a W. Flycatcher
were feeding in the live oak near the N.W. porch.
A Burnet-backed Thrush sang frequently during
the day and late in the evening east of house.
May 18. Four of the Lady Birds went to Inverness
by bus from San Francisco (7:40 a.m. war time)
Weather perfect. List of birds:
Conoverant (prob. Farallons or Tomales Bay - one only)
Puddy Ducks - 10
Bluebills 10+
Turkey Buzzard - common -
Rat tails 3, Sparrow Hawks 1 (No quail)
Mule deer (St. Reyes Station), Gulls - very few (sp ?).
Bantails 2, Inverness.
Allen Hummingbird - (No Anna seen)
Kingfisher 2,
Henry Woodpecker at, Willow Woodpecker 1 heard.
Flicker ),
W. Flycatcher very ab., Black Phoebe 1,
Cliff Swallows in many places along Bay of Pt. P. 5a.
Barn Swallows - pair
Vg. Swallow - at. at Inverness + Mt Vision
(Martin ? - notes heard on Mt Vision may have been)
Coast Jay - 3 pairs seen. (No Calif Jays seen)
Crows at.
Chickadees at., Bush tits, Pygmy Nuthatches crow.
