Cliff Swallows - abundant near water. Probably
raw Rough-winged Swallows also -
Crows - esp. S. of Stockton - in groups -
Tule Wren - Saw one fly into reeds near R.B.
Redwing - perhaps the most ab. in wet places -
Meadowlarks - abundant.
Urisle - one seen from train near Stockton
Brewer Blackbird - probably most ab. species.
English Sparrows - in cities and at ranches
Linnets - ab. - some flocks over fields -
Brown Towhee - an occasional pair seen -
Los Angeles - At 1632 Virginia Rd. Song Sparrow,
Mockingbird, Brewer Blackbird. On May 15
at dawn I heard a Pt. Thrush whistled.
at Palms - Cedar Wren?;
Palos Verdes - resident : Black Phoebe, Cliff Swallows,
Anna H., Mockingbirds, Mourning Dove,
Linnets (too ab.), Gr. Goldfinches (in weeds on
uncultivated hillside), Brown Towhee, Song Sparrow
Migrants: On May 14 I noticed small birds in the
shrubbery as warblers for awhile after lunch.
Found: A small flycatcher with a white
eye ring, and two whitish wing bars. Under -
parts gray with light throat and median
line. No call note. Probably two birds and Trail of W.
A Vireo - incomplete eye ring, merging
into line from bill to eye - Two light
wing bars. Not a Cassine. No note heard.
Gray - no yellow seen.
A Bullock's Oriole - male in full plumage
A W. Tanager
Several Tile-stained Warblers ; a flock of C. Warblers
earlier in day -
The warbler song now
soft till, chee, chee, chee. (clear)
