May 15. Returned to Berkeley. Clear, warmer in
Los Angeles; Rain into rain in the pass
and south of Bakersfield. Cloudy, cool.

Seen from train or bus May 11 and May 15:
Eared Grebe - a female in irrigation ditch near Stockton
St. Blue Heron - in many places in S. Joaquin Valley -
Ann. Egret - several,
Anthony Green Heron - one flew up channel as train
passed (near Hanford),
Ducks - a few seen - not identified in S.J. Valley-
Turkey Vulture - several seen. - 2 in pass (Tehra)
Redtails - several seen.
Sparrow Hawks - several seen.
Marsh Harls - one in S.J. Valley -
Chassant - two near Stockton,
Coots - quite abundant in pools in S.J. Valley.
Kielder - many in S.J. Valley.
Avocet - two or three "
Stilts - 25-30
Gulls - a few near Lelce - win. plumage -
- more as we neared the upper S.F. Bay.
Black Team - one seen near Stockton,
Morning Dars - ab. hard to see against plowed ground
Flicker - over field near Bakersfield - one seen.
Lewis Woodpecker - one seen near Lelce,
W. King bird - esp. abundant S. of Bakersfield to
Grapevine.
Cassin Kingbird - saw the white band on end of
Tail of one Kingbird in same region.
Black Chokes - several seen from train.
Horned Lark - small birds color of field, white
below I look to be A. Larks.
