April 16. Heavy rain. Flocks of birds in the sales;
Audubon Warblers, Siskins, and Purple
Finches; all singing. Miss Wythe told
me there was a Red-breasted Nuthatch near
The Museum April 13, 14, 15 and two White-
throated Swifts explored The Life Sciences Bldg.
Two different days - Many Purple Finches
singing on the campus. Warbling Vireo heard.
at 7:45 p.m. many robins near the Greek
Theater still singing at 8:15 p.m.
Apr. 17. Pine Finches and W. Siskins, G.C. Sparrows. Robin.
Grosbeak. 2 Cassia Vireos. Townsend Solitaire in
plum tree.
Apr. 18. Clear, warmer after very heavy rains. At
the Alvarado Pools: Barn Swallow. Two Burrowing
Owls on adjoining fence posts; a little farther
on two more. 1 Kingfisher; a few Pintails and
Shovelers, many Coots. (No Tidal). Many Arreets all
in full plumage and some calling excitedly.
1 Yellowlegs (yp?), Many Bob. Plover in full plumage,
a few Red. Sandpipers in full pl.; Meadowlarks (singing)
Song. - - Pose.
At Wispitas 2 + 2 Burrowing Owls. 1 Shrike,
1 Sparrow Hawk,
Above Los Gatos (1000ft?). A Black Thr. Gray W. Singing,
In Scott Valley - sandy hills - a Titmouse.
Broeder Creek: Quail, female Nunner (op?), Coast Jay,
W. Flycatcher, Black Phoebe, Warbling Vireo, Chickadees,
Bil.W., Yellow Warbler (first time), Robin singing,
Grosbeak (call notes, no song), Purple Finch, Dr. Poor, junco.
