Feb.17. Ladybirds went to Aquatic Park. Warm, clear.
Grebes: - 1 Western at K.R.E. 6 Eared, 3 Pied billed.
Ducks - Bluebills, Ruddies (2 in red plumage);
Can vas bachs less at., Golden Eyes - 3 males,
Shorebirds: 20 females; 5 Willets, a few Least
Sandpipers, 2 st. Sanderlings. Tide low.
Fooler Terns, 1 Egret (Ave.) Bon-Calif. Glaucous wpg. Gulls.
Yacht Harbor: 1 Com. Loon, many W. Grebes (some calls)
Eared Grebe, Pied d. Grebe, W. Gulls, W.W. Sco-
lers, 5 Surf Scoters. On the shore
many Sanderling 200+ (w. of highway.)
Ducks abundant just off shore.
Feb.22, 23. Passed the Alvarado Ponds going to and
from Boulder Creek. Birds were still very
abundant; Pintails, Costs, Gulls (?), Bb. Plaver,
Sandpipers, Willets, 1 Lesser Yellowlegs.
The yellow leg was between two Willets
Hutton Vires
and was decidedly smaller. singing at Boulder
Feb.25. Saw a Say Phoebe in the gulch just
north of Oak Knoll Country Club.
Varied Thrushes still abundant in our garden.

Feb.27. An Anna /humming bird (male) perches
Constantly at the tip of the highest twig in
a particular bare tree in the Serenian Gardens
on the U.C. Campus. Today he was there as
usual. A Blue jay alighted about three feet
below him. Immediately the hummingbird flew
straight up, up, up until I could hardly see
him, then came down like a bullet with
an explosive whistle at the bottom within
stream front on color shub.
