jan. 26 - Rain since 31st - not cold. Heard a
Screech Owl giving its tremolo notes last evening
at 3.T.A. Heard birds scratching about in the
night for near big window. The Vigin Wren
has been singing full song the last few
days. Still many Varied Thrushes hunting
for sprouting acorns among the wet leaves.
When they crack them they give a thrust with
the whole body in a forward motion adding
force to the bill. 1 Scrub Thrush at, also.
Many juncos, Fox Sparrows, saw. Spotted Towhees,
but Brown Towhees and a Song Sparrow
come for seeds. The Fox Sparrows take seeds
from the pomegranate. Fire Drill clean
up a cupful of seeds in a few minutes.
A titmouse to heard occasionally.
Many gulls on U.C. lawn.
jan. 27 - Rain, rain, rain.
jan. 28. The Lady Birds explored our hill for birds -
Clean. At our house were the usual Sparrows
and Towhees and later Varied Thrushes. Along
Worwood Rd. & Morwood Lane: Jays, Hermit
Thrushes, Wrentits, several Vigin Wrens in full
song, Titmouse, 1 or 2 Sp. singing. In Hamilton
Canyon on the south side of the hill: Anna
Hummingbird, Warblers, Linnets, Robins, Towhees,
Tree-Tits, Thrashers (a pair, male singing softly),
Purple-crowned Sparrow etc. We then went
to Mrs. Leach's house on Yosemite Rd. At her feeding
tray: juncos, Pught S.S. Sparrows, G.C. Sparrows,
White-throated Sparrow (1); Brown Towhee, Song Sp.
