Dec.19. We drove to Saratoga through a dense fog
thin into clear sunshine. Saratoga was
full of soldiers, with Sentries posted at the
crossroads in the center of town, at the
dam on the stream near the quarry etc.
From the summit of Saratoga we looked down
on the valley lined to silver with the sun
shining on the top of the fog. At Boulder Creek
it was warm and sunny. Many robins flew
up from our roadway - feeding on the madrone
berries on the ground. Many Varied Thrushes also
among the trees. Several small groups of Battails
flew over.
