1941 Belvedere. Nov.22. To Boulder Creek and back. Temp. had been down to 22. Water in his pool solid ice, ground frozen in shade. Very warm in sunshine. At Dinubarton Bridge on the return: Bonaparte Gulls and Eared Grebes very ab., feeding on the surface of the salt pool (N.) A few Egrets and Sandpipers (bunched on islet) No ducks. Cpits ab. Nov.23. At the Aquatic Park in early p.m. (High tide) about 900 Least Sandpipers bunched on a dyke- two Willets in center. Puddles, Bluebills a few. Many Coots. 2 Am.Egrets - Nov.26. Mrs. Shane took me to Belvedere. We passed many marshes and lagoons where there were, many water birds. First stop near Sanddune for birds on the mud flats: Rb. Plover, Willets, Redb. & Least Sandpipers Gulls and one Am. Egret. W.Grebe, Scoter - 2 ap. Nearby In the marshes and lagoons: Eared & Pied Grelbes, Far. Cormorants ab., Lt. Blue Herons 10+, American Egrets 100-200, Brown Egret 11, Prutails 30-40; Cawarbecks ab.; Lesser Scaup ab., Am. Golden-Eyes a few (no ad. males), Buffleheads 25+ (about 6 ad males), Wap. Scoter, Cany Scoter, Puddy Ducks ab., Mr. Mergansers 15+, Redtail 1, Sparrowhawks 4, Coots ab., Western Gulls, Ringb. Gull, Bon. Gull ab., 1 King fisher, B.Phoebe, Crows. Also. Bush Tits, R.c. Knights, Pipits, Aud. Warblers, Br. Blackbirds, Meadowlarks, Bight Sd. Sparrows, Brown Towhee, Song Sparrow. In this cove: Red Th. Loons, W.Grebe, Br. Pelicans, 41 sp. Gulls & Cormorants.
