Nov. 3. The "Allen Hummers" went to Sunol. Very cloudy, no rain until after lunch. Very heavy rain from Walnut Creek to tunnel. Warm, still. Our first stop was south of Dublin where there was a great aggregation of birds: W. Bluebirds 50+; Aud. Warblers 15+; Dark Sparrows 10+; Bushtits 3; Whitecrowns, large flock; Linnets large flock; green-backed Goldfinches large flock. 1 Slender-billed Nuttall's; Br. Blackbirds small flock; 3 Sparrow Hawks, 5 Lewis Woodpeckers; Flycatchers, Meadowlarks. Dark Sparrows were singing softly. They were seen on electric wires, in trees, on ground, in flight. Even the Aud. Warblers and Bluebirds alighted on the pavement to pick up insects. Meadowlarks singing freely. As we drove on to the Walnut Temple we saw several Lewis Woodpeckers, a Shrike more S.p. Hawks and Meadowlarks - also the Crowned Sparrows, Linnets and Goldfinches. At the Temple Crows, a few Chinchillas, Bushtits, many Aud. Warblers, Nuttall Woodpecker, St. Bill. Nuttall's, 1 Wrentit, East of Sunol Calif. Woodpecker, Mourning Dove, Yellow-billed Magpie (heard), P.C. Kitelet. Returned via Pleasanton - Song Sparrows in the marsh.
Nov. 5: Varied Thrushes are here this morning. Also Golden-crowned Kitelets. Clear warm.
Nov. 6. A flock of 4-c Kitelets in the casks near the house. Increase in Hermit Thrushes. W.W. Men heard every day.
