Oct. 29. Sendl (cont'n) Willow Goldfinch a few; Spotted Tow. 2;
Lark Sparrow 2; Juncos a few; Gambel, Pugilensis
and G-c. Sp. (Pug. most ab.), Song Sparrow, 3? ap.
The Lark Sparrows were on the electric
wires with Bluebirds, Goldfinches, Aud. Warblers.
Oct. 31. The Happy Valley group - partly cloudy, warm.
We found nothing but a wright in the orchard
(apples pears- sandy soil) but in the wild
land adjoining the ranch there were many
birds feeding in the weeds - thistles, mustard,
dandelions etc. Then we found many Gt. Gold-
finches in very bright plumage; also Crowned
Sparrows - Puget Sound and Golden-crowned.
A few Juncos - also we went
on up a little field bordered by trees on
the edge of the hillslope we found several
Ruby-crowned Kinglets in the Duche baccharis.
Then suddenly a Cooper Hawk rose from
a concealed perch. Flickers were con-
tantly flying across the field from one hill
to the next and Audubon Warblers flew
over. We heard a Titmouse and at the
head of the field California Woodpeckers
were catching insects, flying out from a
deal tree. Farther up we heard Wester
Thrasher, Vigo's Wren. We found a large
Jerusalem Cricket tucked into a crack in
a baccharis branch but did not find a shrile.
A pair of Redtails circled over the hill top. 18 sp.
A Lewis Woodpecker alighted in the top of an oak.
