1941 Oct. 15. A large flock of Bush-tits came to bathe in the East pool. With them were half a dozen Ruby-crowned Kinglets, all watching for a chance to get into the pool. As the Bush- tits moved away I saw a Hermit Thrush and three Kinglets in the pool together - the thrush in the deep water splashing vigor- ously and the Kinglets daintily dipping in the edges. Warm. Oct. 16. Warm - no breeze. W.Wrens in the lower garden. Oct. 17. Happy Valley. Lewis Woodpeckers - several were seen flying high over the valley. Oct. 20. The Allen Hummers went up Strawberry Canyon. It had rained all night but was clear and crisp - as if there had been snow in the mountains. R.C. Kinglets still very abundant. Only two W.W. Wrens heard and only lots of Sparrows and no Golden-crowned Kinglets. We saw an (Orange-crowned) Warbler. Puget. Sd. Sparrows and G.c. Sparrows were above the Poultry Farm. Being the first clear day after the first rain, the finches were flying - seen along Canyon Rd. At the Stake above 53 Canyon Rd., the finches were swarming out of the port and also along the board wall. Oct. 23. A R.C. Kinglet outside my window sang full voiced song. Oct. 25. Cloudy. A W.W. Wren under my window began his calls with a quick short bill - 5 or 6 calls together, then three calls, then two. Thrasher calls heard. Oct. 24 Dr. Miller told me 10-12 Fox Squirrels were shot near Paule on Oct. 19.
