(Oct.6 {contin}). As we drove from Vallejo over the
Seas Pt. Road we noticed a large dark hawk
perched on top of a hay stack. When we returned
after lunch we found him still there. He was
very dark but showed a white throat, black
belly, streaked breast; a white patch in
the wing as he preened. Was he an
American Roughleg? (Very near the
highway west of Sonoma Creek perched
on the ground (the ladies in my car
said) had something on his feet. (feathered?)
(Oct.7). Cooler. Saw four Ruby-crowned Kinglets
near the east pool. First two with no
crowns bathing amusingly together. Then
a third with raised crown flew in and
drove one away and left himself, But
they did not go far for soon there were
four visible from the windows.
(Oct.8). More Kinglets - 3 heard one sing today. Also
more Audubon Warblers. The flock of
quail stays at 8 or 9 - very much reduced.
Warm, clear. Chilly at night.
(Oct.10). A W. Winter Wren in the lower garden.
(Oct.11/12) Boulder Creek - Cloudy with misty rain
Sunday a.m. Several Golden-crowned
Kinglets heard - also a flock of Warblers,
probably Townsend. Many Pygmy Nuthatches.
S-C Sparrow heard near the meadow to north.
Along the way Crowed Sparrows were very
abundant - all heard were Pregateurus -
