1941 Sept.29. Aquatic Park. Berkeley. Clear, warm, no wind. K.R.E Station - N.Phal. alr., L.Sandpiper (many) Willets 4, Killdeer 4, Gulls- Bird Island. Forster Terns alr., Bon. Gulls a few, Far.Corm. several, Pied Billed Gull 2, Ann.Egret 1, At Blue Heron 1, W.T. Ruff. Gulls, 4 Ruddies, 5 female (or 4q.) Mallards- 1 Pomarine Jaeger. Twice the jaeger chased a tern. The first time, after getting his fish he settled down beyond the island. The second time he flew out to the bay (a train was passing) Sept. 30. Heard R.c. Knightlet near the house. Many Fox Sparrows about. (Oct.3. The Happy Valley Group had their first lesson in Walter Birds at the Berkeley Aquatic Park. Hot North wind. At K.R.E post me found N. Phalaropes (decreasing), Western and Least Sandpipers, Killdeer (3), Willets (4). At the Bird Island Forster Terns alr., a few Bon. Gulls, W. Gulls, Ring Bills, Far Cormants, 1 Ann. Egret, (No Gullies, no Pomarine Jaeger-) (Oct.5. Boulder Creek. I heard The Fox Sparrow (several) and the Hermit Thrush, Nuthion Vireos - several. Calif. Woodpeckers and Pygmy Nuthatches - Not many birds about but about 11;15 a.m. I heard notes which at first suggested cer- tain notes of the Hummingbirds when fighting, But it turned out to be a flock of small birds: I could distinguish R.c. Knightlets and Vireos and I think the others were Warblers - They gave a
