pitched whistled note, a rest, then the same repeated- He was the only gull seen and the call may have been given in order to attract others - Tide was high and the only Tattlers seen were on the top of the dry cliffs near the arched bridge not far beyond the lighthouse (near a store) There were 8 Tattlers. No Turnstones. But one of the sandy coves where I always find Heermann Gulls there was in addition Least Sandpiper, to the Gulls one Godwit and one Sandpiper, the only one I have seen this fall. 1 Kingfisher seen- Aug.28: Quite hot at Boulder Creek after a cool night. Cassin's Vireo sang several times, a King- fisher rattled. Heard Swain and Sycamore in the garden and a Pileated Woodpecker. On the way home Tide was very high. At Mt. V. Marsh I saw two Carpian Terns and a Willet. At Dumbarton Bridge on the Salt Pools still the water was rough because it was muddy- Birds were much less abundant than on Aug 22 - no ducks; fewer gulls than in July- but still Calif.+ Ring-billed with a few Bonapartes. Phalaropes decreasing, but they may have taken shelter where it was less muddy. Several Avocets were seen, only one with brownish neck One Godwit and 20+ Willets near the road but at a great distance in a shallow salt pool many large waders (200?), Sandpipers were much more numerous, and large groups fed in the roadway. Out of a hundred probably 25 Western and 75 Least. No Dunlin yet.
